It’s that vulnerable plea to a partner to reflect on what they could be throwing away, to consider everything before moving on, to ‘Listen’ with not just their ears but also with their eyes and heart.
The passion that emanates from the lyric and the melody carries the angst of someone ready to lay it all on the table and be honest about the situation. A plea for unguarded confession to resurrect a crumbling relationship.
This song has been a steady member of the live show set list and has become a fan favourite over the years. One of the most meaningful testimonies I received is of a couple sitting at the table, ready to sign their divorce papers, and ‘Listen’ came on the radio. They paused, looked at each other, and asked “what are we doing?” And they never went on to sign those papers. Their relationship turned around at that moment and they were able to rekindle their love and future together. Sometimes all we really need to do is stop and listen. Oh the power of music!”
